We are seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer to join our client's team in San Diego. This role is responsible for designing fire sprinkler systems, preparing detailed CAD drawings, performing hydraulic calculations, and ensuring designs comply with applicable fire protection codes and standards.
The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of fire sprinkler design experience, strong AutoCAD skills, and a solid understanding of NFPA standards and construction documents.
Key Responsibilities
- Design fire sprinkler systems using CAD software based on the AutoCAD platform.
- Coordinate sprinkler system piping with architectural, mechanical, electrical, and other building components.
- Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler systems.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and other construction documents.
- Apply applicable NFPA standards based on building type, construction type, hazard classification, and architectural features.
- Communicate with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), contractors, and other trades.
- Assist with material listings, permitting, and inspection requirements.
- Participate in pre-design and design review meetings.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and improvements in design quality.
- Maintain accurate and auditable records.
- Provide professional and responsive customer service.
- Follow all applicable safety policies and procedures.
- Travel as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 3+ years of fire sprinkler design experience.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD required.
- Experience with HydraCAD preferred.
- NICET certification is preferred.
- Degree or formal education in Fire Sprinkler Design is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of applicable fire protection codes and standards, including NFPA, IFC, and IBC.
- Understanding of NEC requirements as they relate to fire protection systems.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings.
- Strong understanding of fire sprinkler systems, including experience with a variety of system types and manufacturers.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including geometry and algebra.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction/service environment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any licenses or certifications required by applicable codes and regulations.
- Ability to travel as needed.
Compensation & Benefits
- $77,000–$115,000 annual salary, depending on experience and qualifications.
